Our Mission
The mission of Trinity Academy of Portland is to educate middle and high school students within a joyful Christian school culture marked by the discovery of truth, the practice of goodness, the creation of beauty, and the development of intellectual and aesthetic habits of mind.
Our Vision
In partnership with Christ, we desire to equip students to live flourishing lives in service of God and others. Our community of learners engages in the rigorous exploration of reality, the free and disciplined exchange of ideas, and active participation in the fine arts. We aim to serve students from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
Our Core Values
Christian Unity - Trinity Academy is committed to bringing Christians together across churches and denominations in the life and work of our school. We aim to provide an education within a rich and authentic Christian culture that supports parents in their efforts to foster faith in their children. Our curriculum includes study of the Christian Scriptures and sacred doctrine, and students attend daily morning prayer where faculty members bear witness to their life in Christ.
Human Awakening - We believe that education is an awakening to reality and that learning is worth doing for its own sake. Rather than training students for particular vocations, we equip them with the habits of mind that will help them seek and love the truth and act as the agents of their own learning. All students undertake a general course of study that includes mathematics, the natural sciences, humanities, and the fine arts. The end goal of our education is a sense of wonder for the world and its mystery.
Direct Exploration - We believe that learning begins in a direct experience. Our students read and discuss original texts, perform and compose music, encounter the natural world through observation, and act on stage. They are encouraged to think critically, and our classrooms foster exploration that is free, disciplined, and collaborative.
Rooted in Tradition - We provide a liberal arts education derived from the Western, Christian tradition. The foundational texts and questions of this tradition provide a coherent starting place for the pursuit of truth and a deepening of the moral imagination. They comprise the backbone of our humanities curriculum.
Learning in Community - We believe that learning is an essentially communal act. The faculty lead our community of learners, modeling learning as a lifelong activity and inviting students to join them in this endeavor. Students are drawn into a community shaped by mutual care, deep friendship, and the shared commitments fundamental to the project of learning. We keep our classes small, prohibit cell phone use on campus, and encourage one another in our common pursuit of excellence.
